In 2010 Bicycle Institute of South Australia (BISA) obtained a grant from Dept Premier & Cabinet, and Conservation Council of SA to purchase tools and equipment.
The City of West Torrens offered premises, and from July 2011-Jan 2015, the Adelaide Community Bicycle Workshop was located at their community centre at Long Street, Plympton. In Jan 2015 we moved to our current location at 111 Franklin St Adelaide.
The aim of the Adelaide Community Bicycle Workshop is to operate as a community bicycle workshop co-operative dedicated to the repairing, and recycling, of bicycles.
The workshop is supervised by BISA , a not-for-profit community organisation representing cyclists who use bikes for everyday travel, transport, and recreation. (2015 is BISA’s 40th anniversary)
We are staffed by volunteers with Mike Brisco as the Workshop Coordinator .
We aim to assist others to become more self reliant and confident with maintaining their own bicycles.
We welcome the opportunity to assist you with learning how to:
- Repair and/or replace a tube.
- Undertake a basic safety check of your bicycle to identify problems.
- Simple steps to maintain your bicycle.
Depending on demand, we can offer courses for small groups on repairing, renovating and reinvigorating your bicycle.
